As most of you are probably aware, guvera.com launches globally tomorrow, March 30. Set to become a ‘music revolution’, Guvera aims to flip the highly successful iTunes model on it’s head, by offering free legal downloads.

Instead of the typical ‘user pays’ scenario, Guvera offers free content by employing an ‘advertiser pays’ model. Essentially, advertisers are buying tracks for you to download. Gone are the annoying pop-ups. These are instead replaced with engagement advertising tailored to your interests.

The system is quite simple. Register an account, search for your track, choose an advertiser (know as channels) and download your track… for free!
I decided to run a quick trial and searched for ‘The Arctic Monkeys’. After a short pause, Guvera displayed 70 search results.
Tracks ranging from ‘A Certain Romance’, through to the lesser know ‘Despair In The Departure Lounge’, appeared. Scanning over the selection, I decided to click ‘From The Ritz To The Rubble’.
Once a track is selected, you are presented with a list of brand channels. Despite disappointingly missing out on an Express ticket, I decided to select the Bacardi brand, more specifically ‘The Bacardi Express’ Channel. Instantly the webpage is converted into a fully branded Bacardi page, with a prominent link to download my track.
Not only did it list the track I selected, but Guvera presented me with a selection of other tracks supported by ‘The Bacardi Express’ Channel. While my track was downloading, I glanced over the list and noted download links to Surfjan Stevens, Empire of the Sun and The Kooks to name a few. Thirty seconds later iTunes was open and I was happily tapping my feet to an Arctic Monkeys classic!
Will the launch of Guvera truely spark a ‘Music Revolution’? I guess only time (and revenue) will tell.
