Jakarta Criers

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on March 23, 2012

Emerging Brisbane four piece Jakarta Criers have been busy stamping their sound on the local music scene. After recording a stellar debut E.P with the legendary Australian producer, Magoo (Hungary Kids of Hungary, Regurgitator, Midnight Oil), the band have embarked on a run that includes interviews and live performances on 4ZZZ and Alivelive.tv, a “Press Record” filmed acoustic version of E.P single “Maybe” as well as headlining a show at the popular Fortitude Valley haunt, X&Y.

February saw Jakarta Criers take to the stage of The Zoo to deliver a rollicking set of rock & roll with melodic vocals and bluesy licks. The set began with a bang, with the guitar heavy “Desperate Hands” setting the scene for a spritely performance from the crew. Mid set showed the bands diversity, with the Paul Dempsey inspired “W.P.D” and the haunting “Sleeper” allowing the emotion of the lyrics and melodies to really shine through. The set was well received by the solid crowd for a Thursday night, with the biggest cheer reserved for the final track “Peking”, a soaring song of catchy guitar riffs its sing-a-long chorus. All in all, an impressive collection of songs and a band with potential.
