Weekly Playlist 85 features The Killers, Divine Fits, Clubfeet, The xx, alt-j (∆), Ben Folds Five, and Purity Ring.

The Killers – Miss Atomic Bomb

wow. The Killers are back and Miss Atomic Bomb is one of my favourites off the new album. In typical Killers fashion, intense Flowers passion, intertwined with deep crescendos and synth. MZ

Divine Fits – Would That Not Be Nice

Bit like Spoon, a bit like 80s band The Church, whatever they’re doing I love it. Very cheeky bassline. RG

Clubfeet – Heartbreak

One of the catchiest, happiest pop songs of the year. Fresh off the press. RG

The xx – Swept Away

Love this track. Once again, classic xx: simple guitar riff, simple clappy drums that gets the beat rolling and before you know it you’re having a groove. RG

Twerps – Dreamin

Coming to Laneway 2013 – great track. Reminds me a little of Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. RG

alt-j (∆) – Matilda

One of the most beautifully constructed tracks i’ve listened to all year. MZ

Ben Folds Five – Do It Anyway

Ben Folds is back and what a cracking tune to release on return. MZ

Purity Ring – Shuck

An amazing closer to what has become nearly my favourite record of the year. The start feels like something you’d hear on a post-Apocalyptic film. For some reason I can just picture Bane in slow-mo walking through burnt villages cracking skulls. Such a tune. RG
