Artists Ruin Perfectly Good Shoes for Breast Cancer

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on October 26, 2013

If I bought a pair of brand new white Connies and scribbled pen over them I’d be:
a) ruining a pair of brand new white Connies and
b) not able to sell them for a thousand dollars
But if you’re The Black Keys, Tame Impala or a tonne of other artists, you’d be raising money for Breast Cancer. Warner Music Australia along with Cool Accidents, reached out to a heap of musicians and challenged them to customise a pair of Converse sneakers as part of In Their Shoes, a fundraising initiative. The shoes which have been drawn on to varying degrees of talent are being auctioned off on eBay right now. As of writing this, Simple Plan are winning, (not that it’s a competition, even though it totally is), with the bidding for their shoes standing at $930.

In Their Shoes was inspired by Hannah Hooper, member of US band, Grouplove. Hannah has been doing custom drawings on sneakers for yonks and this inspired Warner Music’s blog, Cool Accidents, to kick start the whole event. It’s no surprise then that Grouplove’s pair of sneakers are among the coolest looking in the auction, though Surfer Blood’s pair feature a T-Rex so they’ve got my vote for the best. On the opposite end of the spectrum, The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ masterpiece includes a scribbling of a penis. C’mon guys, aren’t you like fifty now? Being one of the best alternative rock bands in the world does tend to mean you can get away with that kind of stuff.

Head over to: http://stores.ebay.com.au/inDemand-Causes/InTheirShoes to check out all the artists involved and what they’ve done. If you fancy a new pair of shoes and have a couple hundred dollars spare, you’ve still got a couple days left to bid. They’re all one of a kind and it’s for a good cause.
