Mount Kimbie: Laneway Festival Sideshows

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on January 15, 2014

Brilliant and beautiful, UK electronic duo Mount Kimbie are touring Australia as part of St Jerome’s Laneway Festival.

Mount Kimbie will be playing at Laneway on the Red Bull Music Academy/Future Classic stage, which features a seriously ridiculous lineup including Jamie xx, Four Tet, Jagwar Ma, XXYYXX, Autre Ne Veut, Earl Sweatshirt, Scenic, Cashmere Cat and Run The Jewels. Can I just say WOW. What an EPIC lineup.

Anyway, Mount Kimbie will also be playing two intimate, headlining side shows in Sydney and Melbourne. If you’re a fan of excellent electronic music, I highly recommend that you do not miss this event. And it’s an absolute steal at $30, so you have no excuse, really.

One of the most striking, interesting groups in the minimal-electronic scene, Mount Kimbie have continuously become bigger and better throughout their career.

Their superb second full album Cold Spring Fault Less Youth’ came out in May 2013. After failed attempts of reportedly “trying to imitate other stuff,” the duo have found themselves, and their own sound – and I’m endlessly glad that they have.

One of my personal loves when watching an electronic act is when they play live – with instruments. Mount Kimbie embrace this concept completely. You’re not paying to see a couple dudes standing around, pressing buttons on laptops.  Instead, prepare for guitars, drums, keys and more, in a live experience that you won’t forget.

Supporting the duo is Charles Murdoch, who recently released his debut EP under the much-loved label Future Classic., from which the single ‘Dekire’ earned him an AIR award nomination.
