Gig Announcement: Gareth Liddiard (The Drones)

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on April 2, 2014

We are VERY EXCITED to announce that Gareth Liddiard, frontman of The Drones, has announced a special, intimate solo show next month at renowned Sydney venue The Basement, alongside a series of Sunday evening shows at Melbourne’s The Workers Club.

One of the greatest contemporary songwriters and responsible for what is arguably one of the best Australian bands ever, this is a rare chance for fans to catch the enigmatic man in acoustic, solo mode.

Liddiard released a solo LP, Strange Tourist in 2010 to critical acclaim, and has only played a handful of solo shows since then.

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to catch The Drones live, you’ll know that they put on a performance you’ll never forget. It’s intense, it’s powerful, it’s breathtaking. And much of that comes down to Liddiard.

The creative force behind The Drones, last year’s album I See Seaweed was unanimously chosen as one of the best albums of the year. In fact, triple j voted Shark Fin Blues from the 2006 Australian Music Prize-winning album Wait Long By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float B, as the GREATEST AUSTRALIAN SONG. EVER.

How could you pass up the chance to see and hear this musical genius in the flesh?
