Grind House: A COFFEE COCKTAIL bar in Sydney

THERE IS A POP UP COFFEE COCKTAIL BAR IN SYDNEY THIS WEEKEND

You read that right.

Someone, someone with the genius usually rewarded by an invitation to join Mensa, has had the bright idea to combine the two best types of liquid in existence: Coffee, and alcohol.

Let me introduce you to the Grind House: The world’s first coffee cocktail bar. It’ll be open this weekend from June 12-14 in Surry Hills.

The event is celebrating the national launch of MR BLACK.

But what on earth is MR BLACK, you ask?

The brainchild of two Sydney men, it’s a coffee liqueur created over six months in a local distillery, thanks to a startup campaign on Pozible. It’s made from 100% Australian grain spirit, and was recently crowned  the “world’s best coffee liqueur,” at the London International Wine & Spirits Competition.

As distiller Phillip Moore explained, “Australia is home to some of the world’s best coffee and we thought it was about time we had a world-class coffee liqueur to match.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Best enjoyed when simply poured over ice, MR BLACK also tastes splendid when mixed with rum, tequila, absinthe and more.

So put down the wine glass and don’t open that beer. It’s time to get ready for a weekend of some seriously boozy coffee.

The mixologists on the job are an expert team, led by Mischa Bonova of Rockpool Bar and Grill. They’ll be serving up a wide variety of tantalising coffee cocktails, ranging from my personal favourite, the espresso martini, to a naughty twist on your morning macchiato or iced coffee, to some more obscure and interesting concoctions.

And it doesn’t even stop there: Every bottle of Mr Black features a beautiful owl design, created by local artist Dale Bigeni. The cool part is that the artwork is only revealed as the liquid is consumed! The artist himself will be at the launch event, producing live art in front of your eyes.
