Tour announcement: Highasakite

Who knew that Norway didn’t only produce black metal?

Ha. Anyway, Highasakite are a wonderful Norwegian band who I discovered earlier this year. Their single, Since Last Wednesday, is on heavy triple j rotation, and their album, Silent Treatment is easily one of my favourites of 2014 so far. Their sound combines electro-pop melodies, an absolutely beautiful, rich vocal tone, heavyset drum beats and.. yodelling? Not to mention those oh-so-Scandinavian lyrics which aren’t really meant to funny, but sometimes are, thanks to the literal depictions and straightforward sentences. (sup, Bjork?)

If you’re not convinced yet, just look at some of the subjects covered in Silent Treatment.  The song titles alone are tantalising enough: Hiroshima, Darth Vader, Iran, Science & Blood Tests, God is a Banquet…  as if you don’t want to listen to this album!

It all combines to create this incredibly unique sound which can’t quite be compared to anything else. It’s brilliant.

So naturally, I was super excited to find out that Highasakite were heading down under for the first time ever in August this year, for two special shows. They’ve picked up a massive European following and their live shows are already known to be intense and powerful, so this is not to be missed.

It’ll probably be the last time you’ll get to catch these guys in such small venues, so I’d buy tickets now if I were you!

Thurs September 18 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
Thurs September 20 – Howler, Melbourne
