Introducing: Rainy Day Women

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on September 6, 2014

Need a nostalgic slap in the face every now and then? Three words: Rainy Day Women. The Perth based band, comprising of Dylan Ollivierre, Tom Allison, Ross Pickergill and Brett Walsh will be releasing their debut LP, Ain’t It Time on October 3rd.

Like stepping into a time machine, the bands newest single from the forthcoming debut, Mrs Jones, is a head bopping, hip-shaking ode to vocalist Ollivierre’s music teacher. What began as a ‘chopped up drum machine sample’, has become an infectious, feel good tune to sing to all of your ridiculously beautiful teachers that you’re too young for (there’s always at least one).

If Mrs Jones is any indicator, Ain’t It Time is definitely one for the Christmas gift list. The boys draw inspiration from music of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, and you can really hear distinct references to legendary groups including The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles. Combining these elements with strong melodies, harmonies and hooks, the band successfully produces a ‘smooth pop that is unmistakably theirs’.

Rainy Day Women will be embarking on a sold out national tour in support of Melbourne artist, Meg Mac this month.
