New single: Eekkoo & Casper Whirlin (ft. Sailor & I) ‘Elysium’

Montreal-based producer Eekkoo, real name Jonathan Doyon, has just released “Elysium,” a new single from his forthcoming EP Hell Is Other People. Swedish songwriter Sailor & I is featured on vocals, which makes for a really interesting combination. It’s coming out under Deadmau5’s Mau5trap records, and has an accordingly edgy, elusive feel to it.

The track begins with sharp taps and a slowly moving synth. The bass kicks in and the track instantly grows a whole lot deeper and darker. The deep, driving beat keeps the track pumping. And while the track expands and contracts above it, the bass glides under the radar, never surfacing for a moment.

Sailor & I’s vocals add new layers, but it doesn’t really fill the gaps in the track — it kind of expands it, thickly spreading out around the industrial atmosphere. The melody is basically a series of unnervingly repetitive vocal loops. The metallic husky tones add something really strange, and quite powerful to the track.

Hell Is Other People is set to drop mid-October.
