Tour Announcement: Kimbra

Words by Scenewave Australia - Published on September 6, 2014

After the cancellation of the much anticipated co-headline tour with R&B songstress Janelle Monae, New Zealand’s wonderfully eccentric Kimbra is returning to Australia with her own tour later this year.

Australia has long been kind to Kimbra. While born in New Zealand, she is based in Melbourne and records much of her quirky pop here. Difficulty abounds anyone game enough to attempt to describe her style of music – a unique mix of electro-pop, R&B splashed with jazz and soul influences (and about anything else you can imagine), but she’s been wholeheartedly embraced by the indie community, Triple J andjust about everyone else.

One minute you could be swooning to a ballad, the next you’re whipping out your best dance moves. She received widespread acclaim, including an ARIA, for her debut album Vows. Yet she was catapulted onto the world stage with Gotye’s Grammy winning Somebody that I Used to Know, which topped charts around the world and did so much to put her name on the international musical map. She has now returned with her second album The Golden Echo, which is for the most part a masterpiece in modern pop. In equal parts zany and soulful, she is certainly bold. Her show will be something to experience, and will be heading around Australia this November.

General public tickets go on sale on September 4 through www.livenation.com.

Tour dates:

November 20 Sydney – Metro Theatre

November 22 Melbourne – The Hi-Fi
