Lolawolf: My Favourite Tunes

Lolawolf are a New York trio currently on tour with none other than Miley Cyrus. They’re pretty cool though, and as evidenced below, have excellent taste in music. Fronted by Zoe Kravitz (Yep, Lenny’s daughter), their unique blend of electronic, pop, hip hop and ‘tribal’ sounds has given them a signature sound that is not only catchy in a pop sense, but also pretty damn good. Their debut album Calm Down is out now – and it sure is impressive.

Anyway, we were really interested about the roots of their musical influences and sound, so we had Zoe and Jimmy tell us some of their favourites:

1. My favourite track to wake up to is…Zoe: Coffee – Sylvan Esso. Jimmy: Soho – Hot Music
2. The best track for cooking is… Zoe: Water No Get Enemy – Fela Kuti. Jimmy: Bird and Diz (entire album).
3. The best track for spring cleaning is… Zoe: Starfish and Coffee – Prince. Jimmy: Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf (entire record) or Modern Love – David Bowie.
4. The ultimate road trip track is…Zoe: Houses of the Holy – Led Zeppelin. Jimmy: Gonant Garden – Slum Village
5. My favourite love song is… Zoe: Next Lifetime – Erkya Badu. Jimmy: I’m Still In Love With You – Al Green.
6. The best track for sweet love makin’ is…  Zoe: Any song on the Voodoo record by D’Angelo (hopefully making love takes more than one song!) Jimmy: We Are All Virgins – Extra
7. The track that always gets the party started is… Zoe: Can I Kick It – A Tribe Called Quest. Jimmy: Goooo – TNGHT

9. My favourite drunken karaoke track is… Zoe: Love Song – The Cure. Jimmy: Jump Into The Fire – Harry Nilsson (they never have it).
10. My favourite song to sing in the shower is… Zoe: Let’s Stay Together – Al Green. Jimmy: Ask – The Smiths.
11. A song that always makes me cry is… Zoe: Strange Fruit – Nina Simone. Jimmy: Hurt – Johnny Cash (NIN Cover)
12. I love going to sleep listening to… Zoe: Harvest Moon – Neil Young. Jimmy: Arvo part : Portrait (Entire album).
